Armenian Fidayis are to this day revered as being the saviors of the Armenian people. They were a reactionary force made up of Armenian civilians, who left their families in order to create self-defense units when the Armenian community needed it the most. They defended Armenian villagers from persecution, murder, and pillage, while at the same time committing counter-attacks on their enemies. Some members are praised as heroes to this day, for helping Armenians defend themselves against the purges committed by Ottoman officials. Many feel that the Armenian people are indebted to them for their bravery and perseverance. This collection is our way of honoring them and keeping their acts of heroism in our memory.
